Compaq iPAQ as Car MP3 Player

After I had finished the Storage Brick project, I wanted to improve the music listening experience while driving in my car. Unfortunately my current car audio system does not have a line-in connector, so I had to build one myself.

The basic project concept is similar to the AutoMP3 article written by Ralph Cottenham. I built my setup into a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. (more…)

Crib

This project was a slightly modified version of the Heirloom Crib project plan available from Plans Now. I modified the headboards for a more round look for better match with other furniture in the house, plus I added lockable plastic wheels under the posts. I was under a great deal of schedule pressure to finish this project before our first child was born in 1998, but it turned out OK and more importantly on time. It also taught me the importance of powerful tools as my then-cheesy tools nearly choked on the hard maple. (more…)

Deck Tables

I got this project idea from a deck furniture catalog. The idea was to make 6 triangle shaped table segments that can be arranged as either a single hexagonal table, a long narrow table, or several individual tables. What’s more, the tables can be stacked on top of each other for storage in the shape of a spiral tower. Think Rubik’s Cube here. (more…)

Dollies

I built some very simple dollies out of 2×4′s and some 3″ locking casters to help moving portions of the loft bed project during finishing. This was also a good test run for my new dado blade set, and practice for half-lap joints in general. (more…)

Maple Trivets
