Loft Bed

This project is a modular loft bed/play area for my growing son. The basic structure is made up of four 4ft tall cubes of varying sizes and uses. The cubes serve as bookshelves, storage bins as well as an art center with a craft paper roll dispenser.

The bed itself is a sheet of plywood on top of these cubes. The bed platform obviously also incorporates a railing system to prevent accidents. The cubes are attached to each other with four two-sided bolts to make two cube assemblies. The bed platform is attached to the tops of the two cube assemblies with same kind of bolts.

The cubes and the bed platform are made of 1/2″ birch plywood. The bed railings are made of poplar. The whole project was finished with several coats of pure white latex paint and semi-gloss white spray paint. The rope ladder and swing handles are from IKEA. The monkey bar is a piece of 1.5″ closet pole attached with leftover shower faucet knob collars.
